Lou was not only a dedicated public servant, he was an extraordinary human being. I couldn't tell you when I first met him, but I can tell you I feel like I've known him all my life...from hangin' around town, when I worked at Gino's in high school, when he owned the dry cleaners, when he joined the police force. He always had a smile, happy to make you laugh, exuding kindness always. My sympathy and love to you, his beloved family; let your happy memories guide you through this difficult time.

Dear Nancy and Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy on Lou’s passing.
I always remember Lou’s kindness towards my parents. My Dad’s meds were not available until the next day. We had a snowstorm the next day and I could not get out of my garage. On his dinnerhour, Lou went to the pharmacy and brought the medicine to their home. My parents told me he looked like a snowman, covered head to toe in heavy snow. The next day, with more snow falling, Lou returned to their home with the remainder of Dad’s medicine. Lou was very kind and thoughtful.
May your happy memories sustain you all in this time of sorrow.
Lou, Rest In Peace ✝️

My deepest condolences to the Mercuro family. Haledon has lost one great person. He was always there for everyone especially the children no matter what color, nationality or religion. Always had a smile on his face. He was what I call a true public figure. What all police officers should be like. He will be missed. Left to soon but will never be forgotten. Thank you for being part of our lives and for being so caring. Wanda, Deidre Davila, John Davila and Benito Guzman III

I was truly fortunate to have worked with Louie thoughout my career. Lou's compassion for people during they're darkest hours is what I respected, and will remember him for. Lou did not care who you were or where you came from because he treated you the same. He had a way of lifting people's spirits with his light hearted humor. He would offer a meal to those who were hungry, a buck if you were broke and lend you an ear if you were down and out. (a real old fashioned cop). Anybody who knew Louie would agree. Lou as a co-worker would be the first to work your shift if you ever had an emergency or if you needed time off for any reason.
I was privileged to have worked with this decent and kind man and we remained friends to date. You will be missed. So till we meet again Godspeed my brother.
